About the GIPC Community Crime Prevention Task Force: The task force examined the underlying problems that led to the surge of violence in the community and recommended actions to prevent crime before it occurs. The Task Force adopted the following strategies to accomplish this task:
Community Perspective:
- Gathered and reviewed statistics and demographic information about who commits violent crimes as well as circumstances related to the commission of these crimes;
- Gathered and reviewed information from the community to identify underlying problems causing crime;
- Reviewed information from other cities that experienced similar spikes in crime to determine common causes and potential solutions;
Public Safety Perspective:
- Identified public safety response (ways in which public safety responds to either underlying problems or resulting crime)
- Provide recommendations that address the root causes of violence and prevent crime before it occurs.
The goal of the task force was to create a set of recommendations presented in a written report to the Mayor, Council President, Sheriff and other interested stakeholders based upon its analysis of information discussed above and other relevant data.
