The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) is a group of students from across Marion County who serve as the voice of Indianapolis youth in city government.
MYC members are selected based on proven leadership skills, school activities and community involvement. MYC members are nominated by a school principal, guidance counselor, school superintendent, teacher, faith leader or the head of a community organization.
The MYC serves as advisors to the administration, participates in
community service projects and plans various programs and meetings.
Some specific things the Mayor’s Youth Council is responsible for include:
- Working with the Mayor to develop city policies focused on youth issues
- Advising the Mayor of important youth issues in Indianapolis
- Working to build partnerships with other youth organizations
- Volunteering at community events throughout the city
- Being active in local schools and reaching out to other young people they represent
