• 1.8.09 MAYOR’S OFFICE, UNITED WAY KICK OFF WINTER ASSISTANCE FUND
  Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) President and CEO Ellen K. Annala today kicked off the Winter Assistance Fund drive by accepting $620,000 from eight local funders. The start-up amount is nearly triple what was announced a year ago for the program to help low-income individuals and families avoid having their gas or electricity utilities turned off during winter months.

• 1.6.09 CITY SEEKS TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN EX-OFFENDER RE-ENTRY PROGRAM
  Each year, more than 5,000 ex-offenders are released from prison and return home to Marion County. A significant number eventually end up back in the correctional system. To break this cycle and help ex-offenders transition into positive roles in our community, the City of Indianapolis continues to partner with local businesses to connect pre-qualified ex-offenders with employers and job opportunities.
