Glossary

 

The following is a list of functions performed by the Computer Aided Dispatch System:

 

Incident Entry and History - Maintains all information received from a person reporting a complaint and all information pertaining to units dispatched on the complaint.

Unit History - Maintains all information on a unit's assignment to an incident including enroute, onscene, inservice times, miscellaneous information and out of service times.

Premise History - Maintains a file on hazards pertaining to a specific address and flags that information for the dispatcher/control operator.

Message/Memos - Allows users to send messages/memos to any user/agency in the CAD system.

Business File - Maintains a seperate list of businesses within the jurisdiction of each agency on the CAD system.

Personnel - Each agency provides a list of personnel authorized to use the CAD system.

Radio - Maintains a list of all radios and personnel or units assinged to the radios.  Allows for the unit using the radio to show on the status monitor of the controlling operator.

Street File - Maintains all addresses within the jurisdiction of each agency on the CAD system.

Mobile Data Terminals - Used for Fire House Alerting and Police units.  Provides a means for each fire station to receive an alert and a printed copy of incidents assigned to units within that station.  Provides a means for police units to obtain driver history, vehicle registration and wanted person inquiry without going through the dispatcher.  When a unit is dispatched on an incident, a copy of the incident is sent to the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT).
