Lieutenant Wingate died as a result of gunshot wounds inflicted on 6/13/70 at the scene of an armed robbery of a supermarket on North Keystone Ave. The shooter, Harry J. Adams, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Deputy Emery Summers was wounded in this battle; Summers shot and killed Charles Cotton, one of the robbers.
