The Drug Chemistry Section uses color and crystal tests; thin-layer, gas and high performance liquid chromatography; ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometry and mass spectroscopy to analyze evidence believed to be illegal or controlled substances.
The section also determines the purity of controlled substances submitted as evidence and investigates suspected cases of tampering or substitution of prescription/commercial drugs.
