As citizen of Indiana, you are served by a County Coroner. This person "Speaks for the dead" by investigating suspicious, threatening or unusual deaths.

  • Constitutionally elected for four-year terms
  • Resident of the county for at least one year
  • Serves the role of an administrator of the death investigation
  • Lives as part of the community and answers to its citizen
  • Is required to complete a basic educational course in forensic science
  • Is required to attend 16 hours of continuing educational annually

About the Marion County Coroner

Dr. Kenneth Ackles grew up in Indianapolis. He is a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He furthered his education and graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College. He later attained a degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis. Dr. Ackles has been a practicing Chiropractor for over 18 years. Dr. Ackles served his country through active service in the United States Air Force. In 2001, the Indiana State Chiropractic Association voted him "Chiropractor of the Year". Dr Ackles serves on the Indiana State Chiropractic Association's Executive Board and was appointed to the Indiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners for 3 terms by the late Governor Frank O'Bannon. Dr. Ackles is married to Genora Ackles and a dedicated father of 4. He is a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Ackles also holds a membership and is active in the Urban League, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the 100 Black men. He serves as "ringside Doc" for the annual boxing matches held at the Indiana Black Expo.
