Tie the Knot this Valentine’s Day with Clerk White
Fourth annual event to raise money for the American Heart Association
INDIANAPOLIS – For the fourth consecutive year, Marion County Clerk Beth White is turning her office into a ‘Chapel of Love’ from 2 to 5 p.m. on Valentine’s Day in an effort to raise money for the American Heart Association.
Like the last three years, Clerk White will perform a simple, civil wedding ceremony for couples looking to marry on this special day. In lieu of an officiant’s fee, couples are asked to make a $50 contribution to the American Heart Association. Since 2007, more than $4,000 has been raised through this annual event.
“Each day, we’re witness to happy couples applying for their marriage license. On Valentine’s Day, we’re able to kick it up a notch and help them tie the knot, while raising money for a very worthy cause,” Clerk White said.
A valid marriage license is required for any couple planning to be married. To apply for a marriage license in Marion County, either the bride or groom must be a resident. Couples are required to show proof of residency and pay an $18 license fee. For Hoosier couples living outside of Marion County, they must apply for a license in their home county.
Couples considering a Valentine’s Day ceremony in the Clerk’s office can make a reservation by calling (317) 327-4740. They are also encouraged to apply for their marriage license before Valentine’s Day.
