Tie the Knot on Valentine’s Day
Marion County Clerk performing marriage ceremonies on Valentine’s Day, raising money for the American Heart Association
INDIANAPOLIS – Marion County Clerk Beth White will perform civil marriage ceremonies on Valentine’s Day as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.
Marriage ceremonies will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 in room W-122 in the City-County Building. In lieu of an officiant’s fee, couples are asked to make a $50 contribution to the American Heart Association. Last year’s event raised more than $800.
“This is a great option for couples looking for a simple, solemn, civil ceremony with the coveted Valentine’s Day anniversary date,” Clerk White said. “Our staff has a lot of fun planning this event to make it special for the more than 50 couples expected to be married throughout the day.”
In order to be married, an application for a marriage license must be filed at the Marion County Clerk’s office before the ceremony. The marriage license fee is $18 for Marion County residents or $60 for out-of-state residents. Couples are encouraged to apply for their license before Valentine’s Day or to arrive when the office opens at 8 a.m. to minimize wait time.
