​Make a Difference

You can make a difference.

Everything you do to conserve energy, reduce pollution, and operate more efficiently is important. But sometimes, it's hard to tell if you're making a real impact.

That's why membership in CICAP is so rewarding. As a member, you'll know that you're a part of a larger effort that's producing measurable results.

Best of all it's easy to get started. Just review the commitments listed below and choose the ones that are right for your business. Then, finalize your company's commitment by filling out the online registration form and submitting it.

Gold Partner - 10 or more commitments
Silver Partner - 6-9 commitments
Bronze Partner - 3-5 commitments

General Knozone Program Commitments

You don't have to wait for a Knozone Air Quality Action Day to make a difference. Your organization can get involved by:

  • Making donation to Knozone of $500 or more.
  • Publishing at least two ready-to-run articles about air quality issues in your company newsletter each year.
  • Posting "Idle Free Zone" signs at your facility.
  • Actively encouraging other local business and organizations to participate in the partnership.

Fleet Vehicle Commitments

If your business maintains a fleet of vehicles, you can pitch in by:

  • Creating and implementing an idling reduction policy.
  • Retrofitting some or all of your older diesel-powered vehicles with DOCs.
  • Servicing fleet vehicles regularly.
  • Refueling your vehicles at the end of the day during summer months.
  • Using alternative fuels in at least a portion of  your vehicles for at least three years.
  • Committing alternative fuel vehicles when additions to your fleet become necessary.
  • Evaluating the feasibility of anti-idling and other fuel-saving technology for my fleet of trucks.

Commuting Commitments

Vehicle exhaust is a primary cause of both ground-level ozone (smog) and fine particles (soot). You can help cut back on air pollution by:

  • Considering the implementation of pre-tax savings accounts for transit and carpooling expenses.
  • Appointing an employee transportation coordinator to act as a liaison between Central Indiana Commuter Services (CICS) and your employees.
  • Hosting a CICS informational commuting fair for your employees.
  • Offering incentives to employees who carpool.
  • Providing bike racks for your employees.
  • Offering telework, flextime, or compressed workweeks to your employees.

Energy Saving Commitments

No comprehensive effort to improve our quality and conserve natural resources would be complete without a serious considerations of energy efficiency. Your organization can help by:

  • Performing a comprehensive energy audit of its facility.
  • Implementing an energy conservation plan.
  • Incorporating "green building" and energy conservation principles into any new or retrofit construction at your facility.
  • Accepting the U.S. EPA's offer to become an Energy Star Partner.
