The Office of Sustainability held its first bicycle and pedestrian documentation this fall. The results will help the City to expand its knowledge on bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements throughout Marion County. The count was modeled after the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project, a national effort that provides a consistent model of data collection and ongoing data for use by planners, governments, and bicycle and pedestrian professionals. Take a look at the results.
All commuters on the road need to know how to Share the Road and that includes buses and bikes. Make sure you know what to expect when biking alongside public transportation.

For the health of our citizens, to improve our environment and to save transportation costs, Indianapolis is encouraging more people to get out of their cars and start riding their bikes. To further that effort, Indianapolis continues to extend bike lanes and trails in more areas of the City each year.
The Indianapolis Bikeways plan will create more than 200 miles of bike lanes across the City over the next 12 years.
Check out the 2012-2015 Connectivity Plan.
Indianapolis is proud to be recognized as a "Bicycle-Friendly Community" by the League of American Bicyclists.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, a Bicycle-Friendly Community welcomes cyclists by providing safe accommodation for cycling and encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation.
In a community that is safe, convenient and pleasant for bicycling, more people choose to bicycle for recreation and transportation. This helps improve fitness, health, and air quality and creates a greater sense of community.
Bikeways Plan Current Year
