INDIANAPOLIS RESTRICTION UPDATE
INDIANAPOLIS – The following restrictions and road closures are current or upcoming for the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Many restrictions listed below are dependent upon favorable weather conditions.
NEW RESTRICTIONS
• I-70 eastbound near the Greenfield exit may be restricted to one lane in either direction as crews make pavement repairs.

ACCELERATE 465 RESTRICTIONS
• I-465 northbound ramp to U.S. 40/West Washington Street will be closed while pavement connections are completed.

• Beechway Drive between Rockville Road and West 10th Street will be closed to through traffic for road rebuilding. Local access will be maintained with most businesses being accessible from Rockville Road.

• I-465 loop ramps at U.S. 40/West Washington Street will be closed to allow contractors to shift I-465 toward the center median. The traffic pattern will operate like a diamond interchange, with traffic signals on either end of the I-465 bridge.

• I-465 between Sam Jones Expressway and I-74 on the west side will be shifted towards the median as pavement work begins on outside lanes. Three lanes will remain open during rush hours. Overnight and on weekends, up to two lanes may close in each direction for road construction. Total intermittent closures may happen for 20 minutes at a time near bridges to remove beams over I-465. Stay alert for changing traffic patterns.

• West 10th Street will be restricted to two narrow lanes in each direction while contractors rebuild the bridge in two phases. The old loop ramps will be temporarily closed and the traffic pattern will operate like a diamond interchange, with traffic signals on either end of the I-465 bridge.

First Contract for 465/69 Northeast Awarded
Milestone Contractors awarded the $72.8 million project
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded the first contract of the 465/69 Northeast corridor project to widen and rebuild I-465 from U.S. 31 to Allisonville Road. Milestone Contractors, Inc. of Columbus has been awarded the contract for $72.8 million, 27 percent less than the INDOT engineer’s estimate.
Starting this weekend, crews begin preparations by putting down temporary pavement on the median shoulders to be used in traffic shifts early next year. 45 miles per hour signs are designed to protect crews working in the area.
Overnight Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24, motorists may encounter lane closures while barrier walls are placed in the median. Once the barrier wall is set, traffic shifts slightly to the right to allow extra room for crews to work while pavement is put down. Throughout the project, it is anticipated that three narrow lanes will be maintained in each direction with possible short-term overnight or weekend lane closures.
Bridge work is anticipated to begin in January while mainline reconstruction should start in March, depending on weather. Motorists should stay alert for traffic pattern shifts at that time. The Westfield Boulevard and North River Road bridges over I-465 are anticipated to close as early as January while the bridges are reconstructed. Once complete in late fall 2010, I-465 from U.S. 31 to Allisonville Road will have four through lanes in each direction plus additional auxiliary lanes. Upgrades to the Keystone Avenue interchange will be completed under a separate contract at a later date.
The 465/69 Northeast project adds travel lanes and improves interchanges along an eight-mile stretch of I-465, from just east of the U.S. 31 interchange to just north of Fall Creek Road, as well as more than two miles of I-69, crossing over 82nd Street and ending just south of the 96th Street interchange.
