465/69 Northeast Traffic Pattern Changes to Take Effect Over Weekend
Night, weekend lane closures for lane striping, barrier installation
INDIANAPOLIS – Prior to the morning rush hour on Monday, March 8, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) anticipates shifting traffic to the new pattern, which includes an eastbound “express lane” from U.S. 31/Meridian Street to Allisonville Road.
Before traffic can be shifted, contractors must first stripe narrow lanes and then install temporary concrete barriers at I-465 westbound bridges within the work zone. Painting pavement markings requires dry pavement conditions above 32 degrees, which have been fleeting within the past weeks. Motorists on I-465 should watch for night and weekend lane closures.
465/69 Northeast interstate widening and reconstruction between U.S. 31/Meridian Street and Allisonville Road is still on target to wrap up by the end of this year. Additional information about the 465/69 Northeast project is available at www.465-69northeast.in.gov.
INDIANAPOLIS RESTRICTION UPDATE
INDIANAPOLIS – The following restrictions and road closures are current or upcoming for the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Many restrictions listed below are dependent upon favorable weather conditions.
NEW RESTRICTIONS
• U.S. 31/East Street between Thompson Road and Mill Street will be restricted using a movable barrier wall while the bridge over I-465 is demolished and reconstructed. During morning rush hour, there will be two lanes northbound and one lane southbound. In the evening, there will be two lanes southbound and one lane northbound. Stay alert for changing traffic patterns.

• I-465 at U.S. 31/East Street may experience overnight and weekend lane closures while the U.S. 31/East Street bridge overhead is demolished and reconstructed in two phases. Total night time intermittent closures may happen for 20 minutes at a time to remove beams over I-465.

• I-465 westbound ramp to U.S. 31/East Street southbound on the south side will be closed while the bridge is demolished and reconstructed in two phases. Detour follows I-465 westbound to Mann Road and loops around to I-465 eastbound.

ACCELERATE 465 RESTRICTIONS
• I-465 loop ramps at U.S. 40/West Washington Street will be closed to allow contractors to shift I-465 toward the center median. The traffic pattern will operate like a diamond interchange, with traffic signals on either end of the I-465 bridge.
Date: Saturday, April 25 – Fall 2010

• I-465 between Sam Jones Expressway and I-74 on the west side will be shifted towards the median as pavement work begins on outside lanes. Three lanes will remain open during rush hours. Overnight and on weekends, up to two lanes may close in each direction for road construction. Total intermittent closures may happen for 20 minutes at a time near bridges to remove beams over I-465. Stay alert for changing traffic patterns.
