As part of the Recycle Indianapolis initiative, The Event Recycling Team (ERT) provides recycling at events in Marion County and educates to build awareness of the benefits of recycling with Indianapolis residents and visitors. ERT volunteers are responsible for the collection of recyclable beverage containers at these events.
This is a dirty job. For that reason, and for safety reasons, we ask that volunteers be at least 16 years of age.
Volunteers are responsible for set up, tear down, and maintaining the recycling bins during an event. What this means is that volunteers take any trash out of the recycling bin (with a litter picker-upper), and put it in the trash and also take recyclables out of the trash and put them in the recycling bins. Volunteers also provide recycling information to interested attendees.
Now for the perks! You get into the event for free! As a member of the ERT, you will get a cool t-shirt, in the size that you prefer, to wear at each event that you work.
Volunteer for the ERT and you may sleep better at night knowing you've provided environmental education to those who need it and kept valuable resources from final disposal!
In 2007, the team recycled more than 4400 pounds of beverage containers conserving enough energy to power a television set non-stop for 18 years, and conserving the equivalent of 2200 gallons of gasoline!
