Downtown District officers provide uniformed field patrol and investigative services to the downtown Indianapolis area.  With its headquarters building at 39 West Jackson Place, Suite 500, the District is staffed with approximately 75 sworn and 10 civilian employees and is under the direction of CommanderPhillip Burton.  The District covers about 3.5 square miles with a 2010 population estimate of 12,929, although daily commuters, sports, and other special events can swell the number of citizens on the district to 250,000 or more.

Downtown District relies heavily on the use of officers assigned not only to patrol vehicles, but also bicycle and foot patrol officers.  Working closely with downtown citizens and businesses, Downtown District Officers work to keep the downtown area a great place to live, work or visit.
