Recurring Programs

Saturdays:

Nature Discovery Class, 1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Stop by every Saturday for a fun activity! Topics vary - possible activities include nature hikes, pond life, simple crafts, and more! Free with park admission.

Raptor Feeding Time2:30pm at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist to watch us feed one or more of our birds of prey. Feeding only takes a few minutes so don’t be late! Free with park admission.

Sundays:

Sunday Morning Birdwalk, 9-11am meeting at the Ornithology Center. Join a group of new and experienced birders for a brisk morning bird walk! Meets rain or shine. Walk is not geared toward children but they are welcome to attend. Free with park admission.

EDC Feeding Time1:30-2pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Watch as our educational amphibians, reptiles, and other critters enjoy their lunch! On the menu: worms, mice, salad, crickets, and frozen bloodworms, yum! Free with park admission.

Meet A Raptor2:30-3pm at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist to discover the world of raptors! You will  meet one or more of our birds of prey and learn what makes them raptors. Free with park admission.


Wednesdays:

Wildlife Encounter,  3:30pm-4pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Join us for a chance to meet one of our educational animals up close, and learn what you can do to help protect wildlife. Our ambassadors include insects and other invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. Free with park admission; donations towards the care of the animals always welcome.  Oct 3 - Groundhog, Oct 10 - Turtles, Oct 17 - Opossums, Oct 24 - Snakes, Oct 31 - Spiders


Thursdays: 

Story Time on the Reservoir, 9:30am-10:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. After reading a nature-themed story, participants will be able to visit stations at their own pace. Stations will vary but may include puppets, coloring pages, artifacts with a naturalist, or additional books. Program is best suited for preschool and kindergarten, but early elementary students are welcome to join. Fridays:

Migration Game4pm at the Ornithology Center. Designed for ages 6-12, our obstacle course teaches children about migratory birds and the hazards that they face. Join us for this outdoor adventure time. Free with park admission.



Oct 3 (W): Volunteer Coffee Talk, 8:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. Join us the first Wed of every month for  an environmental presentation. A great chance to meet volunteers and learn more about volunteer opportunities. Everyone welcome! Free with park admission. 

Oct 8 (M) Homeschool Jamboree Registration begins,   ​sign up beginning today for our very popular Homeschool Jamboree!  Jamboree takes place Friday, November 2, 10am-2:35pm, at the Earth Discovery Center.  Students attend four environmental education classes in an exciting, educational, and fun-filled day.

Registration opens at 9am and will remain open until Oct 12, or until all 150 spaces have been filled. Ages 8-14, $15/student, register at indyparks.org​, course code #17573.

Oct 10  (W): Books & Boots, 10am-11:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. We will read "The Things That I Love About Trees" by Chris Butterworth. Using the book as inspiration, we will venture out on the trails to explore trees. Activities include off-trail fort building, hiding in an old tree, looking for invertebrates, and searching for nuts and seeds. Come dressed for the weather and being outdoors.  Ages 5-9. Free with park admission. 

Oct 10 (W): Hike & Seek, 2:00pm, meeting at the Earth Discovery Center. Preschoolers and their parents will go on an exploratory hike. Free with park admission. For additional dates/locations, check the events at facebook.com/eaglecreekparknaturalists

Oct 11 (Th): Little Ducklings-Cardinals, 10:30am-11:30am at the Ornithology Center. Learn ways to engage your preschooler in nature and encourage their curiosity. Topics will be introduced through hands-on activities, hikes, stories, and take-home ideas. Meets one Thursday/month, snack usually included! Ages 2-6, $5/child, pre-registration required at www.indyparks.org​, #17173. Fee applies to child, but a caregiver/adult must stay for the program. No drop-offs.

Oct 13 (Sa): Saturday Hike Series, 9am-10:30am at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist for a morning hike - young, old, experienced and new hikers, all are welcome! Children under 10 free, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration encouraged, but drop-ins welcome. Rain or shine. Age 10+, $3/person, register at www.indyparks.org, course code #17205.

Oct 16 & 30 (Tu): Homeschool Ornithology Club, Class 1, 10am-12pm at the Ornithology Center. Perfect for the young naturalist or budding ornithologist! Learn bird id & adaptations, behavior & anatomy, songs & intelligence, and efforts in conservation. Each class consists of a lesson, hike, take-home activities, and snack. Ages 10-14, $10/student for individual class, $40/student for five class series, register at www.indyparks.org, course code #17191 or #17179 (whole series).

Oct 17 (W): Bird Scavengers, 2pm-3pm at the Ornithology Center. Are vultures the only bird that scavenge? Join the naturalists to learn about these cool birds and how they survive. Free with park admission.

Oct 19 (F): Friday Night Hoots, 6pm-7:30pm at the Ornithology Center. Join us for an evening of owls, hikes and stories by a fire. Learn about native owls, see a live owl, drink hot chocolate around a campfire, hear myths and legends about owls from around the world and take a night hike. We encourage bringing marshmallows or hotdogs to cook over the campfire while we tell stories. If you bring food, remember skewers! Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Bring warm clothes and a flashlight! All ages, $8/person, $2 discount for 3+ registrants, register at www.indyparks.org, course code #17182. Oct 26 & 27 (F & Sa): Guided Full Moon Paddle, 7pm-10pm at the Marina. While the sun goes down, you'll receive basic paddling instructions and safety guidelines. As you paddle, try to catch a glimpse of the full moon. Register at: eaglecreek-outfitters.com/guided-paddle-programs.html

Oct 27 (Sa): Owl Festival, 10am-4pm at the Ornithology Center. Join us in celebrating our favorite night-time hunter. Enjoy a fun-filled day with hikes, crafts, live bird programs, and more! Oct 27 (Sa): Owl Prowl & Campfire, 5pm-6:30pm at the Ornithology Center. Join our naturalists for an evening of owls, hikes, and stories by a fire. Learn about the owls that live in Indiana, drink hot chocolate and make s'mores around a campfire (all provided!), hear myths and legends about owls from around the world, and take a night hike to discover the owls of Eagle Creek Park! Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. $6/adult (18+), $3/child (5-18), 5 years and under free, register at www.indyparks.org, course code #17227.
