Recurring Programs

Saturdays:

Hike Series, 9-10:30am meeting at the Ornithology Center. No hike on Saturday, July 14 due to triathlon. Explore a different trail each morning including the little-known westside trails. $3/person; children under 10 free with paid adult. Walk-ins welcome, or register online at www.indyparks.org:

Nature Discovery Class, 1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Stop by every Saturday for a fun activity! Topics vary - possible activities include nature hikes, pond life, simple crafts, and more! Free with park admission.

Raptor Feeding Time, 2:30pm at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist to watch us feed one or more of our birds of prey. Feeding only takes a few minutes so don’t be late! Free with park admission.

Sundays:

Sunday Morning Birdwalk, 9-11am meeting at the Ornithology Center. Join a group of new and experienced birders for a brisk morning bird walk! Meets rain or shine. Walk is not geared toward children but they are welcome to attend. Free with park admission.

EDC Feeding Time, 1:30-2pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Watch as our educational amphibians, reptiles, and other critters enjoy their lunch! On the menu: worms, mice, salad, crickets, and frozen bloodworms, yum! Free with park admission.

Meet A Raptor, 2:30-3pm at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist to discover the world of raptors! You will  meet one or more of our birds of prey and learn what makes them raptors. Free with park admission.

Fridays:

Migration Game, 4pm at the Ornithology Center. Designed for ages 6-12, our obstacle course teaches children about migratory birds and the hazards that they face. Join us for this outdoor adventure time. Free with park admission.

July 6 (Fri) Hike & Seek—Pin Oak Loop Preschoolers and their adults will hike and explore on this 1/2 mile trail. Meet at the Earth Discovery Center. Free with park admission.

July 11(Wed) Volunteer Coffee Talk “Native Herbs,8:30-9:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. Join us the first Wednesday of every month for an environmental presentation. A great way to meet volunteers and learn more about opportunities. Free with park admission.

July 13 (Fri) Friday Night FrogWatch, 9-10:30pm meeting at the Earth Discovery Center. Learn about frogs, frog calls, and visit a pond to search for frogs themselves! July 17 (Tue) Story Time on the Reservoir—Water Can Be 9:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. After reading a nature-themed story, participants will visit stations at their own pace. Stations will vary but may include puppets, additional books, coloring pages, or artifacts with a naturalist. Best suited for prek and kindergarten, but elementary students are welcome. Free with park admission.


July 18 (Wed) Sunset Paddle 5:30pm at the Marina. Leisurely explore the reservoir of Eagle Creek Park in a kayak or canoe during a Wednesday night sunset. An experienced guide will lead you around to see the sights, enjoy the sounds (even a live band), and tell you some history about the reservoir. This paddle is focused on the nature preserve area of the reservoir. We provide all required gear and basic paddle/safety instructions. Registrants receive a free gift upon arrival. July 21 (Sat) Iron Eagle Paddle and Run This event is the Eagle Creek Park Foundation’s primary fundraiser. This one-of-a-kind race alternates between trail runs and a kayak or canoe leg on the reservoir. All ages welcome. Aug 2 (Thu) Indiana Master Naturalist Series (full) 6pm-9pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Participants in this 10-part lecture series will receive hands-on instruction from field experts, gain entry level understanding of Indiana's natural history, and be connected with volunteer organizations and other nature enthusiasts in central Indiana.  Meets Thursdays Aug 2-Oct 4,  $75, ages 18+  Program is full - to be added to a contact list for next year, please email Jennifer.Boyce@indy.gov, or you can find additional offerings of this program at other locations here: https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/6323.htm

The stations will vary from week to week but may include puppets, coloring pages, games, artifacts with a naturalist, or additional books about the week's topic. During nice weather, the program will meet at the EDC shelter behind the Go Ape! Cabin. If the weather is too cold or windy, we will meet in the nature center. This program is probably best suited for preschool and kindergarten participants, but early elementary students are welcome to join us.  Free with park admission.

Aug 12 (Sun) Perseid Meteor Shower,  10pm-midnight at the Eagle Crest soccer fields, 7201 Fishback Rd. Members of the Indiana Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes to explore the moon, planets, nebulae and other wonders of the night sky. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, bug spray, and anything else to stay comfortable. We may cancel due to heavy cloud cover.
