Be an Indy Parks Volunteer!

We are proud of the many quality sports programs, activities, arts and special events we offer to the community each year.

But these programs and services could not happen without the help of the hundreds of people who have decided to donate their time as volunteers for Indy Parks. Our staff needs people like you to help meet the increasing recreational needs of a growing Indianapolis population.

My City. My Park Initiative

My City My Park is designed to recruit corporate citizens for service projects and similar stewardship activities throughout the Indy Parks system. While many companies, non-profits, and community groups already participate in days of service, this program strategically and proactively recruits volunteers based on professional expertise and specific capital needs in more than 200 parks in Marion County.

Our Adopt-a-Park Program provides opportunities for individuals, civic groups, and local businesses to take on maintenance of Indianapolis’ smallest parks (Less than 1 acre). Indy Parks currently has 22 adoptable parks that are looking for at least a 1-year commitment. View a list of parks here.pdfView a list of parks here.pdf

Advisory Councils and Friends Groups

Create an Advisory or Friends group at your nearest park. These groups are designed to advise and assist the Indy Parks staff on how to meet the recreation needs of the community by contributing volunteer time on the Advisory Board. Act in an advisory capacity on park modifications, fundraising, partnerships, programs, and special use permits. To help the Park plan for the future by advising and assisting staff on the setting of project goals and action steps. To advise and assist Indy Parks staff with addressing the financial challenges of the park.

As we continue to expand our programming to meet the growing and changing needs of the city, the more we need help from people like you: people who have the desire to help others, to participate in your community.

There are so many different ways for you, your family, or organization to get involved with Indy Parks.  You can enjoy the outdoors as a trail monitor at one of our nature centers; or, you can work with kids at one of our many day camps or school outreach programs.

Other potential volunteer positions include:  sports coach or referee, assistant to special needs programs or senior programs, Conservatory attendant, or a docent for our many "summer arts in the parks" concerts and performances.

All prospective volunteers must complete a volunteer enrollment form and a criminal background check and release form. Then, a background check is conducted, and you have an interview with a park manager or volunteer coordinator.

Following a successful application process, we will work to place you in a setting best-suited to your needs and talents where you can be sure to have an exciting and a rewarding experience with Indy Parks.
