License Boards
The ordinance that establishes the Board of General Contractors for the Consolidated City of Indianapolis can be found in Chapter 875, section 102. The Board consists of eight (8) members and is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the ordinance relative to the listing of contractors. The following eight positions comprise the Board of General Contractors:
- The Administrator or his designee, who shall be a nonvoting member of the Board, ex officio.
- Two members shall be "at large" and cannot be listed as a contractor, and one shall be an engineer.
- Five members shall be a person listed as a contractor for at least five years.
The seven (7) voting members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor. Each of the appointed members must be a resident of the Consolidated City. Members shall not receive compensation for serving on the board. The members appointed by the Mayor serve at his pleasure and cannot hold any other elective or appointive office in the Consolidated City.

| Board of Electrical Examiners |
City-County Ordinance, Chapter 875-203 establishes a Board of Electrical Examiners. The Board consists of eight (8) members and is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the ordinance relative to the licensure of contractors. The following eight positions comprise the Board of Electrical Examiners:
- The Administrator or his designee, who shall be a non-voting member of the Board, ex officio.
- Two members shall be "at large" and cannot be listed as a contractor, and one shall be an engineer.
- Five members shall be persons licensed in accordance with Chapter 875 as an electrician.
The seven (7) voting members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor. Each of the appointed members must be a resident of the Consolidated City. Members shall not receive compensation for serving on the Board. The members appointed by the Mayor serve at his pleasure and cannot hold any other elective or appointive office in the Consolidated City.

Board of Heating & Cooling Examiners |
City-County Ordinance, Chapter 875-302 establishes a Board of Heating and Cooling Examiners. The Board consists of eight (8) members and is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the ordinance relative to the licensure of contractors. The following eight positions comprise the Board of Heating and Cooling Examiners:
- The Administrator or his designee, shall be a nonvoting member of the Board, ex officio.
- Two members shall be "at large" and cannot be licensed as a Heating and Cooling Contractor.
- Five members shall be persons licensed in accordance with Chapter 875-301 and at least two of the members must hold a refrigeration license
The seven (7) voting members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor. Each of the appointed members must be a resident of the Consolidated City. Members shall not receive compensation for serving on the Board. The members appointed by the Mayor serve at his pleasure and cannot hold any other elective or appointive office in the Consolidated City.

The Board of Plumbing Contractors |
The duty of Plumbing Licensure is assigned by Indiana State Law and maintained by the Indiana Professional Licensing section. The Consolidated City does not have a Board of Plumbing Contractors. The Consolidated City does not issue licenses to Plumbing Contractors.
Generally, Plumbers are interviewed and tested by the Indiana Plumbing Commission(317-232-5956) for statewide licensure. Public Law 188 and Indianapolis ordinance, section 875-501 however, requires that any person or corporation licensed by the Indiana Plumbing Commission that performs any Plumbing work within the Consolidated City of Indianapolis shall register their license with the Division of Compliance (317- 327-8700).

City-County Ordinance, Chapter 875-402 establishes a Board of Wrecking Examiners. The Board consists of six (6) members and is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the ordinance relative to the licensure of Wrecking contractors. The following six positions comprise the Board of Wrecking Examiners:
Each of the appointed members must be a resident of the Consolidated City. Members shall not receive compensation for serving on the board. The members appointed by the Mayor serve at his pleasure and cannot hold any other elective or appointive office in the Consolidated City.
