The Division of Planning is divided into two areas:  Current Planning, which handles zoning and land use petitions, and Long-Range Planning, whose primary responsibility is the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan for Indianapolis/Marion County.

Current Planning consists of the following five sections:

• Petition Intake and Subdivision Administration
• Petition Review 
• Public Hearings
• Ordinance Maintenance
• Database/GIS Services

Long-Range Planning consists of the following four sections:

• Comprehensive Planning 
• Neighborhood Planning
• Transportation Planning
• Information Resources & Policy Analysis
